While many people know that the first GMT-Master with it's red and blue bezel insert was created for Pan-Am pilots at the dawn of the jet age. Fewer people know that in the 1980s the SR-71 test pilots operating out of a secret airbase in Nevada requested a stealth version of that same watch for use while flying over enemy airspace. The solution at the time was to fit the watch with an all black bezel insert that significantly reduced its radar signature. The black bezel 16700 was born and many historians say that it single-handedly put an end to the cold war.
Okay... So while obviously none of the above spy plane stuff is true, the black bezel 16700 GMT-Master is still a very cool watch with some seriously downplayed looks. This is the watch for someone needing a second time zone function without needing extra attention. This case looks great even though it has seen some light polishing in the past. Since there aren't any sodas that have an all black label and this watch pre-dates the superhero naming convention let's just gonna call it the "Blackbird". The dial has an even glossy finish and the tritium markers and hands are starting to fade to a warm creamy hue. The 12 link oyster bracelet has very light stretch from age and is stamped with a W date code from 1995. This watch comes with Box and Papers.
