1979 Rolex 18K YG Submariner 1680 Black Nipple Dial

$45,750

“The Golden Ticket ”

Case: The thick, even 18K yellow gold case has recently been polished, showing sharp, prominent bevels. The bezel insert is also in excellent condition and has aged to a rich chocolate brown/lavender hue, showing only light wear from use.

Dial: The matte black nipple dial is excellent, showing only light wear for its age. The lume has aged to a dark sandy hue, and the hands have aged just slightly lighter than the lume on the dial.

Bracelet: The 11-link 18K yellow gold Oyster bracelet is excellent, showing only very light stretch for its age.

Accessories: None.

Notes: A gold Submariner isn't the watch you're going to take diving. Not that you couldn't; the watch would do just fine. It's rated to a depth of 200 meters, just like its stainless steel brothers. But there are other tools for that job. These days, the gold sub seems best suited to a life of leisure. An evening sail on Salamina Bay. A late morning cappuccino at a cafe in Positano. Or perhaps a cocktail on a hotel roof overlooking the ancient ruins of the Roman Empire.
