Case: The previously polished case is excellent, showing light to average wear from use. The black fat-font bezel is also in excellent condition, showing only very light wear from use.
Dial: The matte black serif dial is excellent, showing little if any wear for its age. The lume has aged to a warm, vibrant goldenrod hue, and the hands have aged slightly lighter than the dial.
Bracelet: The 12-link Oyster bracelet is very good, showing average stretch for its age.
Accessories: None.
Notes The caseback is engraved "1972 Canada's Cup, Mirage vs Dynamite". From my research, it appears that each crew member from both boats received a watch for sailing in the Canada's Cup race.
From the New York Times Archives
"TORONTO, Sept. 11 (Canadian Press) — The American challenger Dynamite captured the opening race of the Canada's Cup sailing series today by 1 minute 52 seconds in light winds.
The Detroit boat, with Lloyd Ecclestone at the helm, opened a commanding lead on the final windward and running legs over the 21‐mile triangular course on Lake Ontario and was churning away from Mirage, the Canadian defender, at the finish."
