Case: The pointed crown guard case is excellent, showing wide, prominent bevels and some light wear from use. The bezel insert is also in excellent condition, and has faded to a silvery grey tone showing only very light wear from use.
Dial: The glossy gilt underline dial is excellent, showing only light wear for its age. The lume has aged to a warm, creamy hue, and the hands have aged to a dark sage hue. The 4-8 o'clock markers show some darker spots from a previous hand drag issue that has now been resolved.
Bracelet: The 12-link Swiss rivet bracelet is excellent, showing only light stretch for its age. The clasp is stamped with a 1964 date code.
Accessories: Service Papers from Tropical Watch
Notes from Original Owners Son: My father purchased this Rolex while on furlough from the Vietnam War in Hong Kong in 1967. He always told me about buying and having this watch shipped back to the USA along with various electronics he purchased there at the time (stereo, camera, etc). This Rolex was always in his gun safe since I can recall as a young kid (born 1974). He never wore it in my lifetime, assume he wore it when he first returned to the States. About 15 years ago he delivered this Rolex along with other valuables to my house and advised I put it in my gun safe, which is where it has resided ever since. He got sick, had severe dementia, passed away a little over 2 years ago. So unfortunately, the one person that could give facts about the history of this watch is no longer with us. I’ve started cleaning out my gun safe recently and came across this watch the past week or so and started researching it a bit.
