The story is simple. Radium was out, and the less toxic Tritium was in. Rolex still had dials that needed to be used but needed a way to delineate that they were no longer radium. So the underline marking was created and a special rare variation of Rolex dials was produced. This particular version is a survivor of at least 4 Rolex services and a recent full polish. The texture of the dial is glossy and the underline on under SCOC is bright and visible. The lumionus material on the dial is partially flaked off and the hands (excluding the 24 hour hand) have been relumed to match the dial. The insert is newer than the watch but has faded to a beautiful orange and medium blue hue. The newer folded link bracelet from 1972 has 11 links and light stretch from use. The watch comes with the original papers and all the service documents seen in the photos. This rare survivor is a reminder that even titans like Rolex never wanted to waste a beautiful dial.
