1958 Rolex Submariner 5508 with Papers

Case: Very good case that shows wear from use. The watch has been polished before and the serial number is partially obscured from wear. The red triangle bezel insert is in excellent condition and shows overall light wear for being 62 years old.

Dial: The excellent gilt chapter ring has gracefully aged with time. The surface of the black paint has lightly cracked and still retains a glossy finish. The markers and hands have aged to a gorgeous warm orange hue. The 6 o'clock marker glows brighter than the rest of the markers which is correct for this era. All the makers glow briefly when exposed to UV light.

Bracelet: The newer 10 link USA rivet bracelet has average stretch for its age and is stamped with a 7-72 date code.

Notes: The original owner was gifted this watch in 1954 while filming for the Rolex in Geneva Switzerland. It was later passed down to his son who provided a detailed history of the watch and family. It has since been in the collection of one more owner before landing here at Tropical Watch.
